Andrew McMahon

Andrew McMahon is President of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian). In this role, he is responsible for advancing Guardian’s traditional lines of business, including Individual Markets, Commercial and Government Markets, as well as Direct to Consumer. He is also responsible for Marketing and Communications, Enterprise Strategy, Consumer Experience, and Customer Development.

Individual Markets offers solutions for individual consumers through a general agency distribution network. Individuals work with advisors to obtain life and disability insurance, annuities, and wealth management products and services. Commercial and Government Markets offers products and services through employers as well as the government, such as dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. Guardian’s Direct to Consumer business offers individual consumers online access to dental, accident, critical illness and pet insurance. Mr. McMahon is also responsible for corporate development, GIS Strategic Ventures LLC, and mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. McMahon is an insurance industry veteran having led several major business segments at AXA US, including AXA Advisors and the Financial Protection businesses before being named president and board director. He has led strategic transformation initiatives at AXA, General Electric, and as a partner at McKinsey.

Prior to joining Guardian in 2017, he invested, launched and advised several InsurTech companies. Recently, he was granted a patent for an approach using artificial intelligence (AI) for financial risk assessment and insurance underwriting.

Mr. McMahon is a member of the board of trustees for Fairfield University and serves as an executive advisor to Gryphon Investors, LLC, a leading private equity firm. He is also the founder of Vitae Advisors, LLC, an analytics firm built to exploit the potential power of big data as related to risk assessment and insurance underwriting. He previously served on the Board of Directors for Phoenix Life Insurance Companies, AXA Financial, American Council of Life Insurers and Alliance Bernstein.

Mr. McMahon has a Bachelor of Science degree from Fairfield University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
