Sonya Stephens

Sonya Stephens is an experienced educational leader currently serving as the Chief Performance Officer for Guilford County Schools, a position held since March 2021, where responsibilities include overseeing state and local assessments as well as research initiatives. Prior roles include Senior Director and Data Trainer at Wake County Public Schools from November 2008 to March 2021, and Executive Director of School Accountability and Assessment Specialist at Kenosha Unified School District. Earlier in their career, Sonya worked as a Senior Consultant for the American College Testing (ACT). Academically, Sonya holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Media Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Science in Counselor Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service from Cardinal Stritch University.
