Michael Baker has a diverse work experience in various companies. Michael started their career at BHP Steel in 1991 as a Chemical Engineering Cadet, gaining experience in different departments of the business such as Production, Quality, R&D testing, and Application. After their cadetship, they worked as a Brickmaking Quality Facilitator at BHP Steel.
In 1997, Michael joined Caroma Dorf as a Production Supervisor and Planner, overseeing various production departments including Kilns, Refire, glaze making, slip making, and glazing. Michael stayed with Caroma Dorf until 2001.
From 2001 to 2015, Michael worked at GWA Bathrooms & Kitchens. Michael started as a Manufacturing Manager and then transitioned into the role of Factory Planning & Purchasing Manager. In this position, they were responsible for planning factory production, optimizing labor and machine efficiencies, and purchasing non-stock and stock items to support factory operations.
Since 2015, Michael has been working at GWA Group Limited. Michael initially joined as the Planning and Supply Lead Plastics, where they managed the supply and management of plastic products and spare parts. Furthermore, they made a significant contribution to the Plastics Transition Project, which involved relocating the manufacturing plant and outsourcing to overseas vendors. Michael also provided manufacturing schedules and cut-over plans, ensuring stock on hand targets were achieved without stock outs. Most recently, they have taken on the role of Head of Supply Planning.
Overall, Michael Baker has acquired extensive experience in supply planning, manufacturing, production supervision, and planning, as well as purchasing.
Michael Baker attended the University of Newcastle, NSW from 1991 to 1996, where they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering degree with honors in Chemical Engineering. Michael successfully completed their studies and graduated with a Second Class Division I classification.
