Stephan Winnik, MD, PhD, FESC, FHFA has an extensive work experience in the field of cardiology and angiology. Stephan is currently serving as the Chief of Cardiology and Angiology at Zurich Regional Health Center Wetzikon since February 2022. Prior to this role, they worked as a Consultant in Heart Failure, Transplantation, and Device Therapy at University Hospital Zurich from January 2018 to January 2022. Stephan also served as a Fellow in Heart Failure & Devices during 2017 and as a Cardiology Fellow from September 2014 to December 2016 at the same institution.
Before joining University Hospital Zurich, Dr. Winnik worked as a Resident Physician in Internal Medicine at GZO Spital Wetzikon from September 2012 to August 2014. Stephan also worked as a Postdoc at the University of Zurich from July 2009 to August 2014, where they conducted research in the field of cardiology.
Prior to their work in Switzerland, Dr. Winnik gained research experience as a Research Associate at UNC McAllister Heart Institute, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC, USA from April 2007 to September 2007. Stephan also worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Freiburg, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Freiburg, Germany from November 2004 to April 2007, where they obtained their doctorate within a national research center on "Vascular Differentiation and Remodeling."

Stephan started their academic journey at the University of Zurich, where they served as a senior lecturer in the field of Cardiology in 2018. Before this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Biology from 2009 to 2013 at the same institution. In 2004, Dr. Winnik obtained their MD degree in Medicine from The University of Freiburg. During their medical studies, they engaged in clinical rotations at various institutions including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they focused on Cardiology & Endocrinology in 2007, and Oncology & Hemostasiology in the same year. In 2008, they completed a clinical rotation in OBGYN at the Universit&auuml;t Zürich. Furthermore, Dr. Winnik pursued additional education at Universität des Saarlandes in 2002 and obtained a Venia legendi/senior lecturer degree in Cardiology from the University of Zurich in 2018. It is worth noting that Dr. Winnik also holds additional certifications, namely the United States Medical Licensing Exam steps 1-3, which they obtained in October 2015 from the EDUCATIONAL COMMISSION FOR FOREIGN MEDICAL GRADUATES.
