Lydia is excited to join the Habitat for Humanity of Michigan team as a Housing and Financial Counselor and continue her work in financial/housing education in a statewide capacity.
Lydia comes to this position from her previous role as the Financial Opportunity Coach at Genesee County Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) where she helped to establish and build the affiliate’s financial coaching program, the LISC Financial Opportunity Center (FOC). During her 2.5 years there she completed her HUD Housing Counselor certification as well as multiple NeighborWorks America trainings related to credit counseling, student loans, pre-purchase education, and post-purchase. Prior to her employment at GCHFH, Lydia served on the construction team there as a state AmeriCorps member where she assisted with the construction/restoration of local homes, helped to install water filtration systems during the Flint Water Crisis, and contributed to various neighborhood activities. She is particularly passionate about her work in financial education as she believes it would please two of the greatest personal influences on her life: her late grandfather (a banker) and beloved grandmother (an educator).
