Habitat for Humanity of South Central New Jersey
Habitat for Humanity of South Central New Jersey is an independently chartered affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), a nonprofit organization that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Locally, Habitat SCNJ is on a mission to transform lives and our counties by building quality homes in partnership with families in need, and uniting all community members around the cause of affordable housing. Since 1987, Habitat SCNJ has empowered over 276 families to achieve their dreams of safe, affordable home ownership and break the cycle of poverty. Our homes are sold with zero-interest mortgages to local low-income families who contribute 400 hours of “sweat equity” toward Habitat projects. Mortgage principal payments are recycled back to build or renovate additional homes through our Fund for Humanity. In addition to soliciting public and private donations, capturing the enthusiasm of over 2500 volunteers a year, and utilizing the current housing stock, HFHSCNJ also operates a ReStore - a second hand retail outlet where new and gently used donations of furniture, building materials and home decor are resold to the public at a fraction of retail value, and all revenue goes directly into supporting Habitat SCNJ programs. All donations to the ReStore provide a free tax deductible pick up service; saving companies, labor costs, valuable floor space, significant dumpster costs, while saving the landfills and supporting a great mission. Support the South Central NJ Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. Help us to build capacity, build homes and build hope.
