As the new Program Associate for Hack the Hood, I am excited to create long-lasting change within marginalized communities throughout the Bay Area. My interest in Hack the Hood stemmed from the passion I have gained through coordinating different programs that have served to help low income and marginalized students achieve their goals for upward mobility through career and educational advancement. I have over 7 years of experience working hands-on with transitional age youth throughout California to overcome adversities and hardships by gaining life-skills and educational resources needed to succeed.
My family came here as refugees from Afghanistan and we lived on government assistance as far as I can remember. I also remember having to assist my parents to navigate through the social services system. Helping my family has shaped and supported my abilities to help marginalized communities. I know the deep intricacies of struggling to live in low-income communities and navigating cultural or racial adversities especially when it comes to having no support. As a woman, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and as a person of color, I am excited to be a part of this team to enact change and help bridge the gap in our communities!
