Firas al-Hafez

Firas Al-Hafez is an AI Resident Intern at 1X since May 2025, focusing on teaching new skills related to reinforcement learning. Currently serving as a PhD Researcher at Technische Universität Darmstadt since November 2021, Firas is engaged in research centered on reinforcement learning and imitation learning for humanoid robotics. Previous experience includes a role as a Research Intern in Machine Learning at Volkswagen Group, where Firas developed a tactical maneuver planner leading to a patent, and as a Software Engineering Intern, creating a modular simulation environment for tactical maneuver planning. Earlier, Firas was a Simulation Engineering Intern at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, conducting thermodynamic energy analysis of fuel cells for hybrid drive trains. Firas holds a PhD in Machine Learning and Robotics from Technische Universität Darmstadt and a Master of Science degree in Electronic Automotive and Aerospace Systems from Technische Universität Braunschweig.
