Senior Industrial Designer at Hamilton Beach Brands

Drew Carlson's work experience spans various roles and industries. Drew began their career as an Intern at MERL in 1999, where they built a website and collaborated on a computer vision project. In 1999, they also worked as a Contract Industrial Designer at IDEO/Boston. From 2000 to 2002, Drew worked as an Industrial Designer at Fiori, where they conducted design and research projects for clients such as HP and Intel. Drew then joined the University of Washington ID Program as an Adjunct Professor in 2003. In 2004, they co-founded Slipstream Design, an agency focused on industrial design, engineering, and consumer research. At Slipstream Design, they worked with clients including Microsoft and Nvidia. In 2005, Drew became the Co-Owner and Principal Designer of CirrusBio, a life science product that they helped bring to the commercial market. Drew licensed the product to Animal Care Systems in 2008. From 2011 to the present, Drew has worked as a Senior Industrial Designer at Hamilton Beach Brands Inc., where they lead the design vision for various appliance categories and facilitates company-wide brainstorming. Additionally, they worked as a Contract Lead Designer at designaffairs GmbH from 2002 to 2003.

Drew Carlson obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design from the University of Washington from 1997 to 1999. Prior to that, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at George Mason University from 1990 to 1993. Before their undergraduate degree, they attended the University of Cincinnati from 1987 to 1989, where they studied Interior Architecture, although they did not receive a degree from there.
