Alec began swimming at age 6 for the Carmel Swim Club. While there, Alec a member of many state championship teams and swam for Jay Chambers as a 11-14 year old. Alec moved to Casper, Wyoming, before starting his high school career. In 2002, he helped Kelly Walsh High School to their first swimming and diving championship in school history. In 2003, Alec qualified for the 200 Breast at the US Open and finished 19th. After graduating high school, Alec chose to continue his swimming career at Indiana University. In 2005, he was a finalist in both the 200 Breast and the 400 IM at the World Championship Trials. In 2006, helped IU win its first Big Ten Championship in 21 years. Named Team Captain during IU's 2007-2008 season, he helped lead the Hoosiers to a 10th place national finish. Alec finished his swimming career at the 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska. He competed at the Trials in both the 200 Breast and 400 IM.
Alec came to FAST in the Fall of 2008. He began working with the Bronze and Silver Tigers, helping FAST to its first Top 3 finish at Indiana Age Group State. In 2009, Alec took over as Lead Coach for the Bronze Tigers and, later that year, FAST won its first ever Indiana Age Group State Championship! After that season, Alec took over the Silver Tigers and FAST has been in the Top 3 at Age Group State every season since, including another Indiana Age Group State Championship in the Summer of 2015. Alec was named the 2013 Indiana Swimming's Age Group Coach of the Year. He has also represented FAST by coaching on multiple Indiana Swimming Zone Staffs and the Indiana Swimming Senior Elite Champ in Charlotte, North Carolina. Alec has also served as the Head Coach for 3 Divisional All-Star Camps and the 2016 Indiana Swimming Age Group Elite Camp in Omaha, Nebraska.
