Mark Tharp

Mark Tharp is a seasoned law enforcement professional with extensive experience at the Hammond Police Department, serving as Lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations Division since 1987. Tharp has also acted as a Hostage Crisis Negotiator from 2008 to 2023 and is a member of the Hammond Police Honor Guard. In January 2024, Tharp assumed the role of President of the Hammond F.O.P. 51 and previously served as First Vice President. Additionally, Tharp contributed to school safety as a Security Officer and Coordinator for the School City of Hammond from 1990 to 2022 and co-coached the Mock Trial Team, receiving the 2011 PTA Lifetime Achievement Award. Tharp's educational background includes an Associate of Arts degree from Purdue University Northwest, a graduate certificate from Northwestern University in Police Staff and Command, and certification from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
