Sam Doerner is the current Theatre Program Manager at Hampshire College. Before that, they worked as a Theater Technician at Six Flags from September 2018 to January 2020, where they prepared stage and equipment, ran lights and sound during the show, and cleaned up afterward for 3-4 shows daily. They also designed light looks for seasonal shows, responded quickly and creatively to technical and logistical surprises, and facilitated positive interactions between guests and verbal and non-verbal costume characters. Sam sought out guest feedback on experiences through guest satisfaction surveys.
From February 2019 to April 2019, Sam was the Set Designer at Majestic Theater. They designed a single set for performances in rep of "I'm Fine" and "Ha."
Before that, Sam was the Lead Lighting Designer at UMass Theatre Guild from January 2018 to April 2018.
Their first job was as an Engineer/Programmer at GlowLime Games from February 2017 to May 2017.
Simultaneously, Sam was a Reading Tutor at Reader To Reader, Inc. from February 2017 to May 2017.
Lastly, before their current position, Sam was the Technical Director at Hampshire College from October 2021 to May 2022.
Sam Doerner's educational career began with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre/Theater from Hampshire College. Afterward, they pursued game development and eventually became a game developer.
Sam Doerner reports to Michele Hardesty, Dean of Humanities and Arts and Associate Professor of U.S. Literatures and Cultural Studies. They work with Alex Cuellar - Director of the Writing Program and Senior Faculty Associate, Greg Kline - Senior Faculty Associate of Studio Arts, and Vacant - Technical Director for Music and Dance.
