Matt Smith

Matt Smith is currently the Director of Energy and Emerging Technology at Hampton Roads Alliance. Prior to this role, Matt served as the Director of Offshore Wind Business Development at the same company. Before joining the Alliance, Matt held the position of Senior Planner at Hampton Roads Planning District Commission. Matt also has experience as a City Planner and Deputy Zoning Administrator at the City of Hampton. Matt started their career as an Intern at PlanRVA and later served as the Content Director at THE HANOVER RESEARCH COUNCIL. Their early career also includes being a Legislative Aide at the U.S. House of Representatives. Matt holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of American History from Washington and Lee University.
