Edward D. Carni

Honorable Edward D. Carni (RET. New York State Appellate Division Justice) is an attorney in the Firm’s Appellate and Litigation practices after serving more than 25 years on the bench.

Judge Carni served as an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Fourth Department since 2009. He previously served on the Appellate Division, Second Department and at the trial level as a Supreme Court Justice and a Syracuse City Court Judge. As a judge, he presided over many complex cases including commercial, construction, insurance, municipal, products liability, professional liability and serious personal injury matters. Judge Carni also served as Chairman of the Judicial Hearing Officer Selection Advisory Committee – Fourth Department and liaison for the Fifth Judicial District Article 81 Committee.

Previously, he practiced law for 15 years representing clients in a variety of corporate, estates, personal injury, real estate and other matters. He also served as a member of the Syracuse Common Council from 1990 to 1995.

Drawing on his many years of service on the bench, he will represent clients in commercial and personal injury litigation and appellate matters and will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and expert witness in litigated disputes.
