John R. Appler is a partner in the firm’s corporate and real estate departments assisting clients in a variety of matters including mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, commercial leasing and private equity placements. He represents a multitude of clients across New York State including professional service entities, manufacturers, banks and other lending institutions and technology companies.

Mr. Appler has a wealth of experience representing clients throughout the life cycle of their business from entity formation to succession planning. He works closely with clients seeking investments in their companies through private stock and other equity offerings to ensure compliance with State and federal laws. He often advises business operations with respect to mergers and acquisitions, structuring key employee incentives, reviewing and negotiating contracts, preparing workouts, tax planning and other regulatory obligations.

Mr. Appler’s real estate practice involves the purchase and sale of commercial real estate, land development and representation of landlords and tenants in complex leasing matters. He has experience with IRS Section 1031 real estate exchanges and has assisted many clients in deferring income tax that would otherwise be due from the sale of property. His real estate work often complements his work on behalf of clients as their primary business counsel.

He is a frequent lecturer on business and real estate law topics.
