Kirk Bassett has a diverse work experience, starting with their current role as an Innovation Engineer at HandsFree Labs since 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Brigham Young University as a Biomechanics Research Assistant and Lab Manager from 2020 to 2022, where they conducted research on the effects of minimalist footwear on foot mechanics and developed an algorithm for athletic movement computation.
Before joining Brigham Young University, Kirk worked as a Process Engineer at Belleville Shoe Mfg Co from 2018 to 2020. During this time, they doubled manufacturing efficiency, improved product performance through testing and research, and managed data across multiple programs.
From 2016 to 2018, Kirk worked at Brigham Young University as a Foot and Ankle Biomechanics Research Assistant, where they conducted gait analysis studies, developed a device for measuring foot strength, and assisted professors in foot and ankle research.
Kirk also gained experience as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at San Antonio Shoemakers (SAS) in 2017, where they contributed to product development, invented a patented footbed, and developed a high-performance athletic shoe for the military.
In 2015, Kirk had two internships. Kirk worked as a Supply Chain Management Intern at MityLite, where they improved bill of materials and worked on a project to increase inventory accuracy. Kirk also worked as a Team Member on the assembly line, providing suggestions for line efficiency improvement. Additionally, they worked briefly as a Materials Handler at Imperial Woodworking Co.
Kirk Bassett completed their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Brigham Young University from 2011 to 2018. Kirk then pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Biomechanics from Brigham Young University between 2020 and 2022.
