Jennifer Herndon

Major of Professional Development & Standards at HARRIS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Major Jennifer Herndon commands the Professional Development & Standards Bureau, focusing on the professional growth and training of the teammates to maintain the communities’ trust. Major Herndon joined the Sheriff’s Office in 1991 as a Detention Officer. After working in the jail, she completed the academy’s Basic Peace Officer Course. She started her career as a deputy using her knowledge of the jail to excel in Justice Housing and Community Services Division assignments.

Rising through the ranks quickly, Major Herndon continued her service in the jail as a Sergeant before promoting to Sergeant Investigator for the Office of the Inspector General. As a Lieutenant, she commanded various units including Hospital and Transportation elements and areas within the Inspector General’s Office. As a Captain, Herndon called both the Office Inspector General and the Crimes Against Persons Divisions home where she continued to shape the culture of the Sheriff’s Office.

In 2023, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez appointed Major Herndon to lead the Professional Development & Standards Bureau.

Major Herndon is a Master Peace Officer and a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Herndon earned her degree from Lamar University.
