Derek Hutchinson, CPA

Derek Hutchinson, CPA has a diverse range of work experience. Derek started their career at SNC-Lavalin as a Junior Draftsman, where they worked on producing General Arrangements in a team setting. Derek then moved on to GENIVAR, where they worked as an Intermediate Piping Designer, collecting data, analyzing information, and leading team efforts to create full construction packages efficiently.

Derek then joined IMV Projects as a Junior Pipeline Designer, where they assisted with planning and producing complete pipeline packages for clients. Derek worked on projects for ConocoPhillips Canada, collaborating with a team of pipeline designers to streamline the utilization of surveyor data and produce over 3,000 construction packages.

After their time at IMV Projects, Derek transitioned to Greg Martineau Projects as an Accountant/Administrative Assistant. Here, they handled both accounting and administrative tasks.

Derek then joined Brookfield Residential as an Accountant, reporting to the senior accountant. In this role, they were responsible for reconciliations, payables, and payments of accounts from vendors for three residential associations. Derek followed the entire accounting cycle, applied analytical and problem-solving skills to financial statements, and provided input on cash flows for management decisions.

Moving on, Derek worked at BDO Canada as a Staff Accountant, focusing on assisting clients in understanding proper accounting practices and reporting standards. Derek performed external audits, educated business owners in accounting practices, and helped clients establish better financial reporting for business expansion.

Derek's next position was at Deloitte Canada, where they worked as a Staff Accountant, gaining experience in various accounting tasks.

Derek then worked at the Toronto Stock Exchange as an Internal Auditor, ensuring compliance and conducting audits.

Most recently, Derek joined Harvest Operations Corp. as a Financial Analyst, where they currently hold a role.

Derek Hutchinson, CPA has a diverse education background. Derek completed their Bachelor of Business and Administration degree in Accounting from Mount Royal University in 2015. Prior to that, they attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) from 2003 to 2004, where they earned a Certificate in Process Piping Design with a focus on the Oil & Gas industry.
