David Cooper is a seasoned marine professional with extensive experience in maritime operations. Since March 2016, David serves as a Marine Pilot at Harwich Haven Authority. Prior to this role, David enjoyed a lengthy tenure at Trinity House from 2002 to April 2016, where responsibilities included serving as Master and Commander aboard the THV Alert and other vessels, as well as working ashore as a Marine Planner in the Operations and Planning Centre. David began a maritime career in 1997 with BP as a Third Officer and Deck Cadet, and gained diverse experience across various roles, including Chief Officer positions at Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries LTD and Second Officer at Nomis Shipping Ltd. Harwich Haven Authority is one of the UK’s largest Trust Ports. Our jurisdiction covers the River Stour, the lower part of the River Orwell, Harwich Harbour and a 12 nautical mile stretch of sea leading into the Haven. We provide a Vehicle Traffic Service (VTS) to mariners, conserve and protect the channels into the Harbour and provide pilotage services to commercial vessels using the commercial ports of Felixstowe, Harwich International, Harwich Navyard, Ipswich and Mistley.
