Dr. Rao Ramayanam

Dr. Rao Ramayanam has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of remote sensing and satellite imagery. Dr. Rao started their career as a Scientist/Engineer at the National Remote Sensing Agency in 1982, where they played a key role in establishing the Indian Remote Sensing satellite utilization program and implementing remote sensing applications for various studies.

In 1989, Dr. Ramayanam founded the A.P. State Remote Sensing Applications Center (APSRAC) and served as its Director and CEO. Under their leadership, APSRAC became a prominent agency in Andhra Pradesh, specializing in remote sensing and geospatial applications.

Moving forward, Dr. Ramayanam worked at the World Bank as a Remote Sensing & GIS Specialist, where they provided advice and support to various departments and sectoral groups in implementing remote sensing and GIS applications for funded projects.

In 1998, Dr. Ramayanam joined Space Imaging, later acquired by DigitalGlobe/GeoEye, as the Director of Sales. Dr. Rao held multiple roles within the company, including Director of Indian Remote Sensing Satellite Program and Director of Africa and Asia Pacific Sales. During their time at DigitalGlobe/GeoEye, Dr. Ramayanam was responsible for international sales to defense and intelligence customers, as well as commercial markets.

From 2013 to 2019, Dr. Ramayanam worked at UrtheCast/Deimos Imaging as the Vice President of Sales for the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa. Dr. Rao contributed significantly to the revenue growth of the company, which operates four sensors in space and provides high-resolution satellite imagery and services.

In 2019, Dr. Ramayanam joined Capella Space as the Vice President of Sales for the Middle East, Africa, South, and East Asia. Capella Space is known for building a constellation of small but powerful Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites, offering hourly coverage of every point on Earth.

Currently, Dr. Ramayanam is a Senior Sales Executive at HawkEye 360, a RF data analytics company operating a commercial satellite constellation. Dr. Rao is involved in identifying, processing, and geolocating RF signals, and leveraging proprietary algorithms to create analytical products for global customers.

Dr. Rao Ramayanam completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Remote Sensing Studies on the Land and Water Resources of Hyderabad City and Environs at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India in 1991.
