David Bickle

David joined Roger and Russell in 1993, and has been a vital part of the team ever since.

He has considerable experience leading award winning projects within the education, commercial, arts and regeneration sectors, and works across the studio supporting and participating in dialogue, debate and design review. His design skills, sensitive approach and critical practice ensure that creative opportunities are explored fully during design development. His sketchbook is full of ideas, and he is a great one for sending inspirational emails in the middle of the night.

He has taught at a number of universities and is an external examiner at UAL Central St Martins and the University of the Creative Arts. He regularly lectures and writes for the architectural press, and has sat on and chaired a number of competition and awards panels including the recent competition to select an architect for the National Trust’s Grade 1 listed Clandon Park.

David is a dedicated supporter of the arts. He is a passionate advocate for collaborating with others and continues to develop relationships with some of Britain’s leading contemporary artists. He is a Trustee of S1 Artspace and Oily Cart, a board member of Tannery Arts and a patron of the Drawing Room London.

In 2015, David took time out from being a practicing architect to become Director of Design, Exhibitions and Future Plan at the Victoria and Albert Museum. He re-joined Hawkins\Brown as a Partner in June 2018.
