Ewan’s professional experience ranges from the smallest scale domestic works through to multiple site masterplanning and internationally significant institutional buildings. As an architect he spent his formative years working on commercial fit-outs, historic refurbishments, residential projects and student accommodation but his focus at Hawkins\Brown has been designing and delivering large-scale healthcare, higher education, laboratory projects to listed building refurbishments, urban regeneration and masterplanning proposals. He thrives where projects present complexity, be that in use, stakeholder arrangements or context.
His work in healthcare is challenging what ‘traditional’ health and care environments look and feel like and how their delivery can be improved. Ewan is driven by an ambition to inject much needed fresh blood into the sector whilst championing smart, sustainable and connected buildings.
Working on highly constrained projects, balancing difficult decisions with razor sharp focus is what drives Ewan’s positivity, tenacity and pragmatism. He tackles problems head-on without losing sight of the care and empathy that these spaces need to wrap.
Ewan focuses on creating tightly focused, loose fitting and approachable buildings that can be enjoyed by all. Ewan is adept at switching between general and detailed scales and tirelessly drives projects towards their goals by gathering momentum and foresight to navigate potential project risks. His has taught him how to successfully deliver collaborative and interdisciplinary buildings that surpass the expectations of our clients and deliver value for money.
Alongside his project work is a school governor for Cherry Garden School, a Hawkins\Brown designed SEN Primary School in Peckham, South East London.
When not in the studio you will most likely find Ewan outdoors either running or cycling towards his next challenge.
