Doug Smith

Doug Smith has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Doug is currently the Founder and CEO of Hawthorne Capital, a successful private equity firm specializing in buying, subdividing, and selling rural Texas land. With over 5,000 acres of land bought and sold and gross sales exceeding $50M, Hawthorne Capital has been recognized as one of the Best Places to Work.

Prior to establishing Hawthorne Capital, Doug founded JDS Holdings, where they successfully bought and sold over 100 houses and 1,000 acres of rural land using their own capital, bank financing, and private lenders. Doug continues to invest passively in various companies and alternative assets.

Doug is an active member and Integrator of the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO), a global business network that connects over 12,000 leading entrepreneurs worldwide. Through EO, business owners can learn from each other and achieve greater business success.

Doug's previous experience includes running REI Network, L.P., a company that provided discounted properties and private lenders to real estate investors nationwide. Doug eventually sold the company after leading it for several years. Before that, they worked as a Systems Analyst at ExxonMobil and as a Software Developer/Intern at IBM.

Doug Smith attended Texas Tech University from 1998 to 2002. Doug earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Management Information Systems and a minor in Spanish. Doug was also a part of the Honors College during this time.

In 2015 and 2016, Doug attended Estudio Sampere - Escuela de Traductores e Intérpretes. Doug studied Castilian Spanish in Madrid through group classes, private lessons, and at-home study. It is not mentioned if they obtained a degree from this institution.
