Jaime Smith

Grants Director at Haymarket People's Fund

Jaime Smith is the Grants Director at Haymarket People’s Fund in Boston, Massachusetts. Haymarket is a 45-year old anti-racist and multi-cultural foundation that is committed to strengthening the movement for social justice in New England. Through grantmaking, fundraising, and capacity building Haymarket supports grassroots organizations that address the root causes of injustice.

At Haymarket, Jaime oversees the grant making process, which includes the yearly distribution of grants to 60 to 80 grassroots community organizing groups across New England. In 2022, this was just under $1,000,000. Her work includes overseeing and facilitating the work of the New England Funding Panel, Haymarket’s grant decision body. In addition, she works closely with grantees to create space for groups to network and create a movement for social justice across New England.

Before Haymarket People’s Fund, Jaime worked for eight years at the Fenway Community Development Corporation, first as Community Organizer and then as the Director of Community Organizing. At the Fenway CDC, some of the organizing victories included the preservation of historic Fenway Park, the preservation of hundreds of affordable housing units, and successful campaigns countering institutional expansion. Before Fenway CDC, Jaime worked as a tenant organizing at the Mass Alliance of HUD Tenants.

Haymarket People’s Fund funds anti-racist grassroots organizations across the region that believe change is possible. We've been behind the scenes, providing funding to almost every major social justice movement in New England since 1974. Each year, our volunteer grantmaking panel, made up of community organizers from across the region, awards grants to local organizations in New England’s neighborhoods and communities.
