Jan Willem Stapel's work experience begins in 2001 with an assignment at Friesland Foods. Jan Willem then worked at ABN AMRO in 2003 and EY VODW from 2004 to 2007, holding roles as a Senior Consultant and Senior Commercial Officer, respectively.

In 2007, Stapel joined BNP Paribas Fortis as a Senior Commercial Officer and VP. Jan Willem then moved to kpn in 2009, where they held various roles including Sr. Marketeer Interactive TV, Manager Acquisition Marketing, Manager Brand & Acquisition Marketing, and Director Marketing Consumer Market and High Value Brands. At kpn, they were responsible for leading the Consumer Marketing department, overseeing the commercial results of the KPN brand, and managing subsidiaries XS4all, Solcon, and Edutel.

In 2018, Stapel joined Magenta Telekom as Chief Commercial Officer - B2C and a member of the board. Jan Willem led the consumer division of Magenta Telekom, overseeing marketing, sales, service, branding, products, and data and analytics. Jan Willem was instrumental in the post-merger integration, rebranding T-Mobile and UPC into Magenta, launching the subbrand HiMagenta, and successfully integrating challenger brand Tele.

Stapel took a sabbatical in 2020 before joining HBM Machines B.V. in 2021 as the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Jan Willem currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, leading the commercial growth and transformation of the organization. Jan Willem has focused on international expansion, transitioning the company to a true e-commerce company through replatforming and data utilization, building the brand, and driving innovation. Stapel has successfully grown the team, surpassed revenue goals, implemented new commerce initiatives, and launched a German webshop.

Jan Willem Stapel has a diverse education history. Jan Willem obtained their MSc degree in Business Administration from the University of Groningen from 1998 to 2004. In 2009, they pursued an Executive Education program in Managing Customer Relationships for Profit at Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management. In 2015, they completed the KPN Leadership Program at Hult Ashridge. In 2018, they attended IMD for a course on Leading Digital Business Transformation.

In addition to their formal education, Jan Willem Stapel has also obtained various certifications related to AI. In 2020, they acquired certifications including "1202 - Use Case Identification & Design," "1201 – Structured Opportunity Identification," and "101 - AI Foundation" from GAIn® - The Global AI network.
