Family & Community Engagement Manager at Head Start for Kent County

John Robinson is currently the Family & Community Engagement Manager at Head Start for Kent County. Prior to this, they were the Executive Director, Principal, & Superintendent at Grand Rapids Child Discovery Center - GRCDC from July 2014 to June 2017. Before that, they were the Assistant Director/Curriculum Specialist - Middle School Services (GRAPCEP) at Davenport University from January 1998 to March 2006. In this role, they led and managed the development and implementation of all components of the Grand Rapids Area Pre-College Engineering Program (GRAPCEP) middle school initiatives including administrative rapport, teacher and student selection, teacher development, competitions, curricular support and Summer Experience (weeklong summer camp for 40 – 60 students). John also initiated, established and developed working relationships with representatives of area businesses in order to define and deliver student workplace experiences. Additionally, they developed and conducted presentations, and wrote and distributed public relations materials in order to secure as much publicity and support for GRAPCEP as needed. John also led and managed the maintenance, development and enhancement of the program’s three web sites, creating, updating and maintaining over 200 web pages. John secured additional funds for GRAPCEP through grant writing, and presentations to state legislators and local business representatives. Lastly, they trained and supported GRAPCEP employees, teachers and students in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access, Novell GroupWise, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and Microsoft FrontPage.
