Syril Pettit, DrPH, serves as the Executive Director at the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (HESI) since June 2000, leading interdisciplinary consortia and innovative strategies for applied science challenges while overseeing scientific programs and providing leadership to the global Board of Trustees. Previously, Syril held the role of Senior Project Manager at Jellinek, Schwartz, managing regulatory and policy issues related to environmental health. Other experiences include serving as a Research Analyst at the Water Resources Research Institute, where a probabilistic computer model was developed for assessing Cryptosporidium risks, and positions at Research Triangle Institute, Massachusetts Audubon Society, and Schering Plough Research Institute focusing on ecotoxicology and environmental education. Syril earned a DrPH in Public Health from the UNC Gillings School, a Masters in Environmental Management from Duke University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Amherst College.
