Maria Poynter is an experienced public health professional currently serving as the Chief Public Health Clinical Officer and Director of Transformation at Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand since August 2022. Previously held positions include Service Clinical Director and Public Health Medicine Specialist at Auckland Regional Public Health Service from February 2019 to August 2022, and Clinical Co-Lead for the National Public Health Service at Interim Health New Zealand. Maria contributed to the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine as a Council Member from September 2017 to September 2020 and again from July 2012 to October 2014, serving as Chair of the Registrar Committee. Early career experience includes a public health medicine specialist role at Hutt Valley DHB and positions at the Health Quality & Safety Commission New Zealand. Maria holds a Masters of Public Health from The University of Auckland and is a Fellow of the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine.
