Derek H. Chao

Derek H. Chao, MD, is devoted to developing relationships with doctors and helping patients better manage their health.

In his current role, Dr. Chao oversees clinical operations. This includes quality outcomes, care management, disease management and clinician engagement

Since joining Optum in 2002, Dr. Chao has held many key leadership roles, from lead hospitalist to regional medical director and chief clinical officer.

Dr. Chao has expertise in inpatient hospitalist programs, end-stage renal disease and high-risk programs, care management, disease management, pharmacy, chronic health assessment programs, care delivery, hospital relationships and business development opportunities.
