Surya Bhan

Prof. Dr Surya Bhan is one of the most renowned orthopaedic surgeons who has established a beyond-reproach reputation not only in India but overseas as well. Currently serving as the Chief Joint Replacement Surgeon & Director of Orthopaedics at Healthians Research Centre, New Delhi, Dr Bhan has achieved a staggering 20,000 successful joint replacement surgeries, which include complex and revision total joint replacements.

Prof. Dr Bhan possesses more than five decades of experience and has the distinct honour of treating the Honourable President of India, the Vice President of India and four Prime Ministers of India. Before joining VIMHANS, Dr Bhan was associated with AIIMS, New Delhi for 26 years and had been head of the department of orthopaedics, in charge of JPNA Trauma Centre and Emergency Services.

During his stewardship in the orthopaedic department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr Bhan was repeatedly adjudged as the best in the country in surveys by national weekly publications ‘The Week’ and ‘India Today’ in 2004, 2005 and 2006, consecutively.

Prof. Bhan has regularly contributed to shaping research in thrust areas as an active member of Project Review Committees of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and has been a member of the team selected by CSIR under direction from Planning Commission to develop indigenous high-quality orthopaedic implants.
