Dr. Trish Kahawita has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Dr Trish currently works as a Palliative Care General Practitioner at Silver Chain Group, where they provide home-based palliative care to patients with complex needs. Dr Trish is also pursuing a Diploma of Palliative Care through the RACP. Additionally, Dr. Kahawita works as a GP Medical Knowledge Consultant at Oscer and as a Medical Reviewer at HealthMatch. Dr Trish is also a General Practitioner and Webinar Facilitator at The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and a Medical Educator at GP Synergy.
In 2021, Dr. Kahawita founded The GP Job Place, an advanced GP job portal, and served as its Founder. Dr Trish also participated in the Blackbird Giants program and was a Startmate Fellow in Autumn 2021. Prior to these roles, they worked as a General Practitioner at Albany Family Doctors, where they specialized in obesity medicine, women's and children's health, sexual health, mental health, aged care, and wound management. Dr Trish also provided services at Aveo Bridgeman Downs Retirement Village and gained advanced skills in skin cancer checks and minor surgeries.
In 2018, Dr. Kahawita joined GPEx (SA) as a General Practitioner Registrar. During their time there, they worked in refugee health and advocated for the needs of their patients, developed resources for new arrivals to Australia, and effectively communicated with culturally diverse patients. Dr Trish also served as a General Practitioner Registrar at GPEx (SA), where they gained expertise in dementia management, rationalizing medications, and palliative care. Dr Trish developed skills in fracture casting, ear micro-suction, suturing, wound management, and proficiency in Mirena and Implanon insertion.
Dr Trish Kahawita obtained their Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2011. Dr Trish has also earned several additional certifications throughout their career, including a Clinical Diploma of Palliative Medicine from The Royal Australasian College of Physicians in January 2023, a Certificate in Clinical Governance for Patient Safety and Quality Care (AICGG) from the Australasian Institute of Clinical Governance (AICG) in December 2021, and an Essential Skills in Medical Education Certificate (ESME) from the Association for Medical Education (AMEE) in September 2021. Dr Kahawita achieved the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in January 2020. Additionally, they hold a Certificate of Women's Health (CWH) from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) and a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from the University of Sydney, both obtained in 2017. Lastly, Dr Kahawita is a Certified Health Information Australasia (CHIA) holder, received from the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH) in December 2020.
