Carmelia Evans has extensive experience in child welfare and education, currently serving as a Staffing Facilitator at Heartland for Children since February 2004, focusing on diversion services. Prior to this role, Carmelia worked as a Supervisor at the Department of Children and Families from December 1999 to February 2004, overseeing case managers. Carmelia also held the position of Senior Case Manager at the Florida Department of Children and Families from January 1990 to February 2004. Academically, Carmelia holds a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern University (2008-2010) and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Tennessee State University (1983-1988).

Heartland for Children
Heartland for Children is the local not-for-profit agency responsible for redesigning the foster care system in Polk, Hardee and Highlands Counties. Heartland for Children promotes the prevention of child abuse and oversees the provision of services for children who have been abused and/or neglected. These services include in-home family strengthening, adoption, case management, foster care and independent living. As the local Child Welfare Lead Agency, Heartland for Children is concerned with the safety and well being of all children in our community.
