Ernest Mandel has held various roles throughout their work experience. Ernest began their career at Yale New Haven Hospital, where they served as a Resident in Internal Medicine and later became the Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. Ernest then joined Brigham and Women's Hospital as a Nephrology Fellow and later became an Associate Physician in the Renal Division. During their time at Brigham and Women's Hospital, they also served as the Program Director for the BWH/MGH Joint Nephrology Fellowship Program. Mandel then joined Ariadne Labs as a Project Lead for the Nephrology, Serious Illness Care Program. Ernest furthered their academic career at Harvard Medical School, where they served as an Instructor in Medicine and recently as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. Currently, Mandel is working at Hebrew SeniorLife, holding multiple roles including Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director of Quality and Safety, Medical Director of Nephrology and Dialysis, Staff Physician in Nephrology Services, and Medical Director of the Medical Acute Care Unit and Medical Complex Unit.

Ernest Mandel has a diverse education history spanning multiple fields of study. Ernest obtained an AB degree in Chemistry from Harvard University from 1997 to 2001. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Yale University School of Medicine from 2001 to 2005. Mandel continued their education at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and earned an SM degree in Epidemiology from 2010 to 2012. In 2016 and 2017, they attended Hebrew College and obtained a Certificate in Spiritual Care at the End of Life. More recently, in 2022 and 2023, Mandel enrolled in the Brigham Leadership Program at Harvard Business School Executive Education, focusing on leadership development. Additionally, they completed the AHA Next Generation Leaders Fellowship from the American Hospital Association in July 2023.
