Gopal Jayabalan has extensive experience in the field of biomedical optics, currently serving as a Product Manager and R&D Engineer at Heidelberg Engineering since December 2016, where also holds the position of External PhD candidate focusing on adaptive optics for confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy. Previous roles include a Researcher at Universitätsmedizin Mannheim, where Gopal worked on a customized phase plate for confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, and a Visiting Research Scholar at Loma Linda University, involved in two-photon excited fluorescence imaging of the retina and cornea. Early experience includes research assistant positions at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research and the University of Heidelberg, and a teaching assistant role at the University of Heidelberg’s Medical Faculty Mannheim. Gopal holds a PhD in Biomedical Optics and a Master’s degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Heidelberg University, as well as a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Anna University Chennai.
