Scott Olson has worked in various roles in the engineering and environmental sciences fields since 2016. In 2021, they are currently employed as a Software Engineer at Heirloom. In 2019, they were a Dropcam Engineer at National Geographic, where their team worked on making ocean research more affordable and accessible. Scott's responsibilities included circuit board troubleshooting, circuit design, machine level programming, monitoring satellite signal levels, battery classification and design, and analytics. Scott also developed a new release mechanism that reduced cost per deployment and reduced material left on the seafloor by 50%. In 2018, they were a Project Manager and Technician at Nitrox Solutions, Inc., where they were responsible for the global installation and maintenance of custom specification systems on private yachts, as well as fabrication, prototyping, and technical design of state of the art SCUBA compressor systems. Scott also conducted scientific gas mixture analysis and testing for comprehensive safety standards. In 2017, they were a Staff Geologist at Engineering/Remediation Resources Group, Inc., where they were the Technical Lead and Quality Control Oversight. Scott's responsibilities included writing bids, generating timelines, logistics planning, and creating budgets for remediation contracts. In 2016, they were a Hydrogeology Intern at Sonoma County Water Agency, where their team was part of the data collection stage of implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). Scott collaborated with biologists and engineers to create water monitoring solutions ensuring water quality for customers and the local environment while increasing awareness and impact.

Scott Olson obtained their High School diploma from Maria Carrillo High School in 2012. Scott then attended Northern Arizona University from 2012 to 2016, where they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Geology/Earth Science, General. In 2018, they attended Coding Dojo and completed a Full Stack Development program. Additionally, in 2011, they obtained an Enriched Air Diver and Open Water Diver certification from PADI.
