Joe McDermott

Associate Vice President - Information Technology at Heitman

Joe McDermott has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. Joe started their career as a Clerk in the fixed income department at Nico Trading in 2007. Joe quickly progressed to become a Trader in Fixed Income Derivatives, where they traded Eurodollar options electronically and integrated Globex markets into the team's information flow. In 2009, they launched and ran a new trading group in metals portfolio, refining and testing new in-house trading software.

In 2010, McDermott became a Senior Derivatives Trader, specializing in equity index options at Nico Trading. Joe determined appropriate skew functions and term structure fits to build the firm's first equity index options trading desk. Joe also worked as a Portfolio Manager and Senior Derivatives Trader, overseeing a crude oil options trading group and analyzing information from pit traders, electronic markets, and multiple brokers to make trading decisions.

In 2012, McDermott joined Atlantic Trading as a Consultant and Senior Derivatives Trader. Here, they consulted for the firm's partnership on operating an energy trading team and developed solutions to optimize performance and reduce risks in the portfolio. Joe also developed criteria for executing position closing and risk-reducing trades.

In 2014, McDermott held two positions simultaneously. Joe worked as a Support Engineer at Vela (formerly OptionsCity Software) for a brief period. Joe then joined Gelber Group LLC as a Trade Support Specialist, where they provided support for trading operations.

McDermott then transitioned to Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) in 2018 and worked as a Technical Business Analyst. Here, they focused on analyzing business requirements and providing technical solutions.

Their most recent position is as an Associate Vice President - Information Technology at Heitman, starting in 2020. McDermott's responsibilities include managing IT operations and leveraging technology to meet business objectives.
