Georgios Prokopiou founded in 1974 the company Sea Traders SA, in 1991 the company Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd and in 2004 the company Dynagas Ltd. He is a graduate of the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and during his business activity he has managed a shipping fleet that exceeds 500 ships, since his first entry into the shipping business in 1971, buying a third of a ship. From 2002 until today, it has built more than 135 ships, in cooperation with shipyards in Japan, South Korea and China.

In 2005, Dynacom was awarded 'Tanker Company of the Year' by Lloyd's List. In 2012, Dynagas made history when the company's LNG carrier OB RIVER became the world's first LNG carrier to cross and transport cargo through the North Sea. In 2015, Dynagas received the 'Working Safely With Suppliers' award from Statoil, for safety performance above industry standards.

In 2013, Georgios Prokopiou was named "Greek Shipping Personality of the Year" by Lloyd's List and in June 2017, he was honored with Seatrade's "Lifetime Achievement Award".

He has been President of the North of England P&I Association and is currently President of the Hellenic Committee of Bureau Veritas, President of the Mediterranean Committee of the China Classification Society (CCS), President of the Hellenic Maritime Club (NOE), member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic American Educational Foundation ( ΕΕΙ), as well as a member of the Greek Committees of DNV, Lloyd's Register, RINA and ABS.
