Hans von Storch

Professor Emeritus at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon

Hans von Storch is a distinguished academic with extensive experience in climate science and meteorology. Currently serving as Professor Emeritus and Institutsleiter at Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Zentrum für Material- und Küstenforschung since January 1996, Hans has also held the position of Editor in Chief for the Research Encyclopedia Climate Science at Oxford University Press from January 2014 to May 2022. Prior roles include Gruppenleiter at Max-Planck-Institut für Meteorologie from January 1986 to December 1995 and researcher during both postdoctoral and doctoral studies at Universität Hamburg from 1976 to 1985. Hans von Storch earned a Diplom in Mathematics from the University of Hamburg between 1969 and 1976.

Founded in 1956, the center is the largest non-university research institution in Schleswig-Holstein. In addition to its main location in Geesthacht and its site in Teltow near Berlin, the Hereon has branches in Hamburg, Kiel, Berlin and Garching bei München. The research center has an annual budget of approximately 100 million Euros.
