Born and raised in Tampa, I’ve always understood the value of education and community. My father instilled in me the importance of focusing on school to unlock my potential for the future, which motivated me to prioritize academic success. After graduating from Sickles High School with a Bright Futures Scholarship and honor roll recognition, I attended the University of South Florida (USF), pursuing a degree in Biomedical Sciences. There, I cultivated a passion for learning and problem-solving, excelling in rigorous coursework that sharpened my analytical thinking and research skills.
Midway through my studies, I faced a pivotal challenge when my mother battled a severe addiction. Taking on the responsibility of her care required me to pause my academic journey, but it also taught me invaluable lessons in resilience, empathy, and the importance of addressing systemic issues such as mental health and addiction. These experiences shaped my ability to listen deeply, think critically, and provide solutions to complex problems.
Now, I’m continuing my education at Hillsborough Community College, preparing to return to USF to complete a degree in Chemistry. Alongside my studies, I’ve spent years helping individuals from diverse backgrounds tackle challenges ranging from mental health struggles to real-world stressors, fostering a skill set in active listening, thoughtful questioning, and practical problem-solving.
As the Associate Policy Development Coordinator for the Henderson for Mayor Campaign, I leverage my background in research, education, and community service to help identify and address the most pressing issues facing Tampa. My role involves crafting thought-provoking questions that introduce new perspectives and facilitate meaningful conversations with stakeholders. This process ensures our policies are informed, inclusive, and impactful.
Working alongside a diverse team, I take pride in using my ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges to develop innovative solutions for Tampa’s future. My story isn’t just about overcoming personal challenges—it’s about applying those experiences to drive real change in our community.
