Sarah Thomas has a diverse range of work experience spanning various educational and outreach roles. Sarah is currently working as the School Programs & Partnerships Manager at The Huntington, a role they began in January 2022.
Prior to their current position, Sarah worked as a Freelancer and Consultant starting in March 2020, where they designed educational programs and resources for local and national organizations focused on children and families. Sarah also wrote online content featuring STEM education.
From October 2019 to January 2022, Sarah served as the Assistant Director, K-12 STEM Center at USC Viterbi School of Engineering. In this role, they developed a strategic initiative for computer science equity in Los Angeles County and managed a year-long virtual training program for 80 teachers in partnership with Code.org.
Before that, Sarah worked at PBS SoCal (KOCE-TV) as the Early Learning Coordinator from August 2017 to October 2019. Sarah developed STEM curricula for nationally implemented PBS programs, conducted teacher professional development on STEM and media-integration for over 500 educators, and presented on STEM topics at local and national education conferences.
Sarah also served as the Lead Educator - Outreach at the California Science Center from February 2017 to August 2017. In this role, they contributed to educational outreach efforts.
Prior to that, Sarah held the position of Activity Specialist at the Columbia Memorial Space Center in the City of Downey from June 2016 to August 2017. Sarah spearheaded the creation of K-12 STEM education programs in collaboration with local and national partners and delivered inquiry-based curricula on 3D printing, robotics, and engineering topics to students.
Sarah gained experience as a Gang Reduction & Youth Development Intern at the City of Los Angeles from September 2015 to April 2016. In this role, they researched and presented findings on challenges facing female gang intervention workers and caseworkers and developed surveys to evaluate a domestic violence awareness training program.
Additionally, Sarah worked as a Lead Facilitator at H.O.P.E. Counseling Services from July 2013 to June 2014, where they facilitated day treatment programs.
Sarah's early experience includes working as a 4th grade teacher in an inclusion classroom in the Clark County School District in North Las Vegas from June 2012 to August 2013. During this time, they also pursued a Master's of Education in Curriculum & Instruction through the Teach For America program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Sarah Thomas attended Northwestern University from 2008 to 2012, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. Their field of study at Northwestern University included Psychology and Legal Studies. In 2015 and 2016, they pursued further education at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy, where they completed a Masters of Public Administration (M.P.A.). Additionally, from 2014 to 2016, Sarah studied at the University of Southern California, earning a Masters of Social Work (M.S.W.). No specific field of study is mentioned for their graduate degrees.
