Adnan Munkarah

President, Care Deliver System & Chief Clinical Officer at Henry Ford Health

Adnan Munkarah, M.D., is the Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for Henry Ford Health System. Dr. Munkarah is responsible for enhancing quality of care, comprehensive healthcare delivery, and patient safety while exceeding patient’s expectations of the overall care experience. He oversees the development and achievement of strategic goals for medical staff development and engagement, patient care services and programmatic services consistent with the overall strategic direction of the health system. Additionally, Dr. Munkarah regularly partners with the Henry Ford Medical Group leadership to help further develop the health system’s population health and accountable care strategies.

Dr. Munkarah previously served as Chairman, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Women’s Health and Chief Medical Officer of Henry Ford Hospital & Health Network. He is also a research scientist within the Department of Public Health Sciences and a professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology in the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

A graduate of the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, Dr. Munkarah received his Doctorate of Medicine with Distinction in 1985. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine in 1988 and Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1992 at Wayne State University and fellowship training in Natural Immunity and Gynecology Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1995.

He completed leadership training at Harvard School of Public Health as well as Weatherhead School of Management and has received a Certified Physician Executive Diploma from the American Association of Physician Executives in 2016. Dr. Munkarah has served in many additional leadership roles including being the Director of the Division of Gynecological Oncology at Wayne State University, Multidisciplinary Team Leader at Karmanos Cancer Center, and the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at King Faisal Specialists Hospital.

Dr. Munkarah is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American College of Surgeons, a member of many professional societies including the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society of Gynecologic Investigation, the American Association of Cancer Research and others. He has served on a number of committees in those national and international professional societies.

Among his many honors and awards, Dr. Munkarah has received Best Doctor’s in America, APGO Excellence in Teaching Award, and named one of the Top Doctors HOUR Detroit Magazine in the area of Gynecology Oncology.

Dr. Munkarah is active in research and education. He is a full-time affiliate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wayne State University. He has authored more than 160 articles and book chapters. He often serves as a visiting professor and invited lecturer at national and international meetings.
