H. Christopher Luce

H. Christopher Luce (1992) directed the foundation’s Program in Public Policy and the Environment until its conclusion in 2007. A graduate of Yale University, he studied also in the Department of Far East Asian Studies at Harvard University. He is an award-winning photojournalist and underwater photographer and worked for Time magazine and the Nashville Tennessean. He has curated exhibitions in Chinese and Japanese art and American photography. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, he collects Asian paintings and calligraphy and lectures widely on the subject. He has served on boards of the Yale University Art Gallery, the College of Wooster, the Freer/Sackler Galleries of Art at the Smithsonian, and the Yale Environmental Leadership Council, and formerly chaired the board of China Institute in America.
