Tom Oldfield has extensive work experience in the field of scientific data management and software development. Tom currently works as a Senior Research Fellow at Sosei Heptares, where they are responsible for extending and managing the ML tools of the company, creating and managing a database schema in Oracle, developing loaders and analytics for different data types, creating intranet services for data delivery, and supporting existing software services.
Prior to their current role, Tom worked at Dotmatics as a Senior Fellow and later as a Principal Software Architect. During their time at Dotmatics, they designed and developed infrastructure for biologics and analytics, implemented multiple sequence alignment algorithms, clustering algorithms, and mutation analysis using Bayes classifiers, among other statistical methods.
Before joining Dotmatics, Tom served as the Head of Databases and Services for the Protein Databank in Europe at EBI. In this role, they were responsible for strategic planning, coordination, and management of data flow and dissemination of macromolecular structure information for the scientific community.
Tom also has experience as a Principal Scientist at Accelrys and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at GlaxoSmithKline.
