Jacob Barnett has a long and varied work history, beginning with their role as an IT Consultant and Technician for Jacob Barnett Productions in 2009. Jacob then moved on to become an Intern for the Office of the CEO at Dow Jones in 2012. In 2013, they worked as an Intern for Analytical Development Services at Standard & Poor's. In 2014, they became a Ruby Web Development Intern for Time Inc. Jacob then worked as a Software Development Intern for the Foundry Program at Microsoft in 2015. That same year, they also worked as a Full-Stack Development Intern for Walc Inc. In 2016, they became a Software Development Engineer at Microsoft. In 2018, they joined Haven Life as an SDLC Architect, Full Stack Developer, and Chapter Lead. Here, they managed and improved the full lifecycle of many Node.js applications, modules, and micro-services, and focused on DevSecOps priorities. In 2020, they joined Send Chinatown Love as an Engineering Lead and Engineering Volunteer. Finally, in 2021, they became the Chief Technology Officer at Herald.

Jacob Barnett attended Poly Prep Country Day School from 2003 to 2011. Jacob then attended McGill University from 2011 to 2016, earning a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Computer Engineering, with a Minor in Economics. In 2013 and 2014, they attended The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to study Computing.
