Somi Javaid

Founder & Chief Medical Officer at HerMD

Dr. Somi Javaid is a board-certified OB/GYN, leading women’s sexual health care provider, thought leader, and founder & Chief Medical Officer of HerMD.

Her passion for women’s health, from the gender disparity in healthcare to female-focused research studies, has allowed her to educate and advocate for women. She has been a speaker for various health and wellness campaigns, events, and podcasts such as the #rightodesire campaign, The White Dress Project Dialogue with Doctors, the Susan G. Komen Sex and Breast Cancer Conference, Bulletproof Radio Podcast, and Pink Ribbon Girls: Sex and Survivorship. She also recently developed a class on Orgasm Dysfunction for Rosy Wellness. She has been featured in Forbes, Vogue, Well+Good, InStyle, Parents, Refinery29, Mashable, Adweek, and Popsugar.

In August 2020 Dr. Javaid spoke about Gender Bias and the Female Sexual Health Revolution on the TEDx mainstage and in January 2021 she was featured in Women on Topp for her work as a trailblazer and pioneer in women’s sexual health. She was also recognized as a finalist for the Female Founders Alliance Champion Awards in the advocate category for her work in women’s sexual health. Dr. Javaid leads female-focused research and advises the FDA on emerging treatments in women’s healthcare with the goal to close the gender gap in healthcare. She travels around the country training physicians on the latest developments and treatments for women’s sexual health. Through all her work, she remains focused on her mission to educate, advocate for, and empower women.

Dr. Javaid earned her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she also completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and was Chief Resident. She was an Assistant professor of Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Dr. Javaid completed her preceptorship at the San Diego Institute of Sexual Medicine and is a NAMS (North American Menopause Society) and ISSWSH (International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health) member.
