Yi-Ming Chiang has over 20 years of work experience in the field of pharmaceutical science. In 2022, they began working as a Scientist at Hexagon Bio. Prior to that, they were an Associate Professor at the Graduate Institute of Pharmaceutical Science at Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science from 2007-2022. From 2007-2008, they were a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Southern California. From 2001-2007, they were a Postdoc Fellow at the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Center at Academia Sinica, where they analyzed and identified bioactive natural products from herbal extracts, elucidated modes of action of bioactive phenolic compounds and polyacetylenic glucosides, and designed and synthesized biotinylated polyacetylenic glucosides for protein target identification. From 2008-2022, they were a Research Scientist at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Science at USC, where they set up automated purification procedures for natural product isolation, characterized meroterpenoids, polyketides, and nonribosomal peptides from fungal culture, identified genes or gene clusters responsible for producing them, and elucidated their biosynthetic pathways, as well as engineered biosynthetic pathways for producing novel/valuable chemicals.
Yi-Ming Chiang received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan in 1996. Yi-Ming then went on to receive a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organic Chemistry from the same university in 2001.
