Peter Ferrin's work experience begins in 2002 when they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Brigham Young University. Their responsibilities included characterizing catalysts and synthesizing novel catalysts for potential industrial use.

In 2004, Ferrin joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Research Assistant. In this role, they utilized Density Functional Theory and Microkinetic modeling to predict the activity and stability of catalytic materials for reactions involving hydrogen, methanol, and ethanol. Peter authored several peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, including a paper in Science and two in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. Ferrin also presented their work on six occasions.

In 2009, Ferrin joined Air Products as a Principal Research Engineer, focusing on reactor modeling, catalyst testing, and continuous improvement in the hydrogen production field. Peter held this position until 2013.

Since 2014, Ferrin has been working at Hexcel Corporation. Initially, they served as a Research Scientist before becoming the Research and Technology Group Lead for Carbon Fiber Performance. Currently, they hold the position of Research and Technology Director for Carbon Fiber. No specific end dates are provided for these roles.

Peter Ferrin completed their education history with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, starting in 2004 and finishing in 2009. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University, where they studied from 1998 to 2004. Additionally, they have a Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt certification from Air Products.
