Assistant Commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco Operations at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Elizabeth Miller is the current Assistant Commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco Operations at the U.S Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to their current position, Miller served as the Director for the Division on Nonprescription Drugs & Health Fraud at the FDA from September 2007 to February 2016. In this role, they were responsible for leading the team that regulated non-prescription drugs and health fraud. From March 2016 to March 2020, Miller was the Vice President of U.S Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs at the U.S Pharmacopeia. In this role, they were responsible for developing and implementing strategies related to public policy and regulation for the company. Prior to their work in public policy and regulation, Miller worked as a Clinical Pharmacist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center from January 1996 to December 1999. In this role, they provided patient care and education on medication use, drug interactions, and side effects.

Elizabeth Miller has a BA in Biology from The Johns Hopkins University, a Pharm.D. from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, and is a Senior Fellow in the Excellence in Government Leadership Fellows Program from the Partnership for Public Service. Elizabeth has also completed a course in The Strategic Management of Regulatory & Enforcement Agencies from Harvard Kennedy School and is certified as a Registered Pharmacist from the Maryland Department of Health.
