Jonathon Orta has a diverse work experience, starting in 2014 as a Program Associate at Instituto Canada. In 2015, they worked as a Teaching Fellow at the Colombian Ministry of National Education, where they facilitated public high school English courses and managed relations between the institution and other organizations. Later that year, they became a Research Intern at Political Research Associates, where they supported lead investigators in various research areas.
In 2016, Jonathon joined HIAS as an Immigration Paralegal, assisting staff attorneys with legal representation, client intake, and translation programs. Jonathon also served as a Legal Manager, responsible for post-asylum program indicators and data management. In 2019, Jonathon took on a contract role as an Immigration Paralegal before becoming the Assistant Manager of Development at the Immigrant Defenders Law Center.
During their time at the Law Center, Jonathon also worked as a Project Coordinator, managing systems compliance, case management procedures, and reporting infrastructure. Currently, Jonathon works at HIAS as a Grant Performance Manager, where they are involved in the development, implementation, and monitoring of organizational initiatives, as well as supporting the financial management of grants.
Jonathon Orta began their education at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2009 and attended until 2011, although they did not obtain a degree or specify a field of study during this time. Jonathon then transferred to The University of Texas at Austin and pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in International Relations and Global Studies from 2011 to 2013. In parallel, they also obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Latin American Studies from the same institution during the same time period.
In 2017, Orta completed the PMD Pro 1: The Essentials of Project Management certification through Inside NGO. Jonathon later pursued several additional certifications, including Financial Accounting Foundations and Accounting Foundations from the Project Management Institute in April 2020, Certified ScrumMaster® (CSM®) from Scrum Alliance in May 2021, and GDPR Compliance: Essential Training from LinkedIn in November 2021. Additionally, they obtained the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® certification from the Project Management Institute in November 2021.
More recently, from 2020 to 2022, Orta attended UCLA Extension, where they studied Business Fundamentals, though no specific field of study was provided.
