In 2018, they were the Targeting Branch Chief at Eighth United States Army, responsible for countering North Korean weapons of mass destruction programs.

From 2016 to 2018, they worked as an Operations Officer at the US Army 1st Recruiting Brigade, overseeing all operations and successfully enlisting over 16,000 Soldiers.

In 2014 to 2016, they served as the Garrison Battalion Executive Officer at U.S. Army Garrison Fort George G. Meade, overseeing staff functions for a large headquarters.

And from 2011 to 2014, they were a Staff Planning Trainer in the British Army, training their brigade and battalion staffs in military planning.

John M Schoenfeldt earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from The University of Kansas, where they studied from 1998 to 2001.
